Relaxed but Chic

Age and size are only numbers. It’s the attitude you bring to clothes that make the difference. I think I’d go mad if I didn’t have a place to escape to. Over the years I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it. It’s hard to balance everything. It’s always challenging. Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. Style is more about being yourself.

I am no longer concerned with sensation and innovation, but with the perfection of my style. It is not easy to dress well. Sometimes the simplest things are the most profound. The great thing about fashion is that it always looks forward. My dresses are very reasonably priced, for dresses that are cut on the body.

I believe in comfort. If you don’t feel comfortable in your clothes, it’s hard to think of anything else. Fashion fosters cliches of beauty, but I want to tear them apart. I’ve always tried to push myself technically and to push myself visually. That’s been part of the journey. It pains me physically to see a woman victimized, rendered pathetic, by fashion. I like the body. I like to design everything to do with the body.

Elegance isn’t solely defined by what you wear. It’s how you carry yourself, how you speak, what you read. I try to contrast; life today is full of contrast… We have to change. Brides today are increasingly sensitive to the tastes, feelings and finances of their attendants. Give me time and I’ll give you a revolution. I try to contrast; life today is full of contrast… We have to change.

Design is a series of creative choices – it’s a collaborative effort, an evolutionary process. You choose your fabrics depending upon what you want to say, then you work with mills to get those fabrics. Through the process, you realize what you want it to be. I’ve treated the waistcoat as if it were a corset, so that it becomes the first layer in the process of putting clothes on the body. There is constant motion between layering and revealing. It is important to be chic. Men don’t want another man to look at their woman because they don’t know how to handle it. I get ideas about what’s essential when packing my suitcase.
